Fire destroys historic building

Writer: K.D. MichaelsK.D. Michaels

A fire last week destroyed a building that was over a century old.

On Thursday, Western Taney County Fire Protection District crews battled the blaze at the building, located on the Drury-Mincy Conservation Area south of Kirbyville.

The building was known as the Frank Drury House, a historic house built in 1924. The house featured solar panels, a back-up generator and other sustainable features.

Many years ago, the house had been reportedly abandoned, and in recent years was used as a Field Station for the Missouri State University.

Due to the remote location of the house, the Western Taney County Firefighters were unable to save the building, and their efforts became defensive, preventing the fire to spread to other locations.
